Back-ups · Sample Server Configuration
You can run both IIS and SQL Server on the same computer. If you do this, we strongly recommend you run Windows 2000 Server on the computer. You can also run IIS on one computer and SQL Server on another. While this is the configuration that would be recommended in a lot of situations, due to the size of this application and the associated database, along with the small number of users that will be using the application, running everything on a single computer will work just fine. The computer(s) that are used to run this application must be on a network that is accessible by all of the users who are going to use the application. BackupsThe standard installation includes a SQL job that backs up the database to a disk file every evening. The exact time of this backup can easily be adjusted to meet the individual district’s needs. This backup needs to be completed prior to the system-level nightly backup that is used to restore the entire system from. This system-level backup must backup the disk file that was created by the SQL job above. The standard name for this file is NightlyFORMATBackup and it is in the …\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\BACKUP directory. Please note that the directory & file names listed above may not be the correct names on your system if you have done a non-standard installation of SQL Server or FORMAT. Sample Server ConfigurationThe following is a sample server configuration that you can use as a guideline. You could consider this as being reasonably close to a minimum configuration. Please keep in mind that when you are configuring a server you need to consider many aspects of your network and operations. We are in no way recommending you purchase this exact configuration. Rather, it is intended for you to use as a guideline. If you would like to discuss a specific configuration with us please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to provide any assistance that we can. NOTES: This configuration does not include hardware for a disk mirroring setup, nor does it include hardware for a disk RAID Array setup. This configuration does not include any backup device. If you are not going to backup this system using a backup device and procedures already in place on your network you must purchase a backup device as part of this configuration!
